Beeecause the last time we worked on a party together we almost had doilies and fog machines at the same event?
[And then they compromised with Weiss dialing back on the lacy decor and Yang ditching the fog machines and finding a respectable, but still cool, DJ duo, Waft Funk.
So actually they can and do work together just fine, but that doesn't exactly help her point right now. Maybe she just needs to be direct about her real concern here.]
Weiss has enough on her plate between her job, the newsletter, training, and the bounties she picks up from the Task Board. [Yang taps a metallic finger on the table as she lists those items out.] I don't need her to make herself sick again putting a birthday party together for Ruby on top of all that when I can handle it myself just fine.
[Seriously. Nobody works harder than Weiss Schnee and while Yang super admires that kind of work ethic? She also thinks it's kinda super ridiculous.]
[ Aww! Listening to Yang talking about Weiss that way only makes Jaune's shipper heart grow more.
...They're definitely on different wavelengths here. ]
You know what I love about you, Yang? Even when you're thinking about this birthday party, you still find the time to worry about others, too. What I'm saying is, you and Weiss both work hard in very different ways, but you're more like the, uh, the mom!
... [ Jaune catches himself applying the mom word for Yang, and considering he knows about Raven, he decides to awkwardly correct himself. ]
[ He's fishing for deets about Yang's kiss with Weiss, without actually bringing it up because he had promised not to. It's a lot harder than he thought it was going to be!! ]
I'm sorry, does my state of happiness and everlasting love bother you?
[ He sits across from her at the table, peeling a mandarin for himself. ]
I just want the same thing for you! You should, y'know, get out there. Find love -- the real kind! It could be just around the corner.
[ Or in this house. GOD HE'S SO AWFUL ... pls bear with him, he's still in the Arkos honeymoon period ]
[ Jaune laughs at Yang's reaction - it's rare to see her like this indeed! It's kind of cute and childlike, even though they've both matured quite a bit since Beacon. ]
Well, fine, then. Nothing serious, no soulmate, no love! How're you doing on the "something fun" front?
Apparently Yang gets the implication too because she totally takes offense at the prying going on here.]
Fantastic. I'm having a ton of fun. Good, clean fun.
[Read: She's not getting any because the one guy she was maybe sorta scoping out is taken and the other guy she was considering just went home so she's right back to square one and this is exactly why she doesn't want to seriously date anybody here.]
Anything else you wanna know, Mister Happiness and Everlasting Love? Or should I save you the trouble and just give you my diary with all my dates and secret crushes in it?
[She does not actually keep a diary like that but she is pouting super hard right now, what happened to the days where Jaune was too scared of her to dare to pry into her personal life she wants to know???]
Are you kidding me? I'm an expert on girl problems!
[ does he even know what the hell he's talking about? ]
I grew up with seven sisters, I watched all five seasons of Valley Girls, and my Ninja Fighter character is Bunn Li, the classy and yet highly dangerous cyborg Faunus.
Also mental note, challenge Jaune to a round of Ninja Fighter- wait, she's getting side-tracked.
But there is something kinda weirdly...touching?? About Jaune being concerned about her "girl" problems, or any of her problems in general. She can't help a curious eyebrow raise.]
[ Is she really asking the guy with the hero complex if he wants to help with something? He perks up immediately, abandoning his mandarin and giving Yang his full undivided attention. ]
Anything, Yang!
[ Besides, she's always there for him and the others, too. Jaune definitely owes her this much, even if for whatever reason he wouldn't want to make time for her. ]
[ Not to worry! He knows exactly what this is about, so the question only mildly excites him as opposed to fangirl screaming. That's only happening on the inside. ]
Honestly? No.
[ There's a pause. She asked for honesty, so... ]
I... found the idea of it odd - before everything, I mean. It wasn't until later that I realized there's nothing wrong with dating my best friend and partner. I only wish I saw it sooner.
[Yang breathes out deeply through her nose in a sigh, expression troubled.
There's no way for her to ask it without sounding like a complete asshole but she really does want to know how Jaune handles having a relationship with somebody he's never going to see if and when he goes back home.
Yang absolutely couldn't be happier for the both of them and maybe it's just some kind of odd wish-fulfillment closure type thing going on but, while she's absolutely on-board with enjoying any time given to you to be with people you care about...the idea of getting really really attached to somebody in a way you know for sure is going to be temporary?
[ It's unbelievably scary. Jaune can see that Yang is uncharacteristically troubled by this, which means it's something quite close to her heart. Weiss, too, expressed similar concerns about getting attached to something that's temporary. Two of the strongest ladies he's ever known, terrified of having their hearts broken... it's not as amusing as it sounds. He's been there, after all. It hurts more than anything else he experienced, and Jaune gets hurt a lot.
With a wistful smile, Jaune stands up, ready to get back to his routine. With or without his help, he trusts they'll figure this out on their own, but he does leave her with some parting words. ]
Nothing lasts forever, Yang. Someday, we'll miss each other, too.
[ And yet he continues moving forward as his journal name suggests, towards a better tomorrow. WELL, THAT WAS GRIM. ]
[There's a similarly sad kind of smile on her face as she watches him leave. It's not until after he's left that she softly intones.]
...I know.
[Whether she means the chance of one of them going home or the chance of one of them dying because she's well aware by now that she's driving herself straight into some kind of war back home, it really doesn't matter.
If there's one lesson she's learned very hard, from a young age no less, it's that nothing lasts forever. Yang's tried to live her life as if every day could be the last one but sometimes it's just...difficult. And that kind of mindset doesn't always mesh well with things like relationships.
Picking her Scroll back up, Yang pulls up a file; not her party planning list but a photo. The same photo of the team that Ruby'd sent their dad at the start of classes.
It's not just that Yang's afraid of having her heart broken. It's that she's had it utterly shattered once already.
She's scared of what a second time would do to her.]

[ He takes a bottle of water, then closes the fridge door. ]
I mean, that "perfect" and your, uh... whatever you are don't go together? I think you two would go perfectly fine if you ask me.
[ They seem to be talking about two different things here. ]
I mean, look at Pyrrha and me, we're kind of opposites in some aspects! It's a good thing!
[ He opens the bottle and takes a swig, only to turn towards the sink and spit it back out. He opened the wrong bottle!! ]
Pfffwh!! Mineral water... why...

Yeeeah, and so are big sisters.
[Which is what she actually is? Wtf...]
Look, Jaune, is somethin' up with you? You're acting super weird. [A beat.] ...Weirder than usual.
[At least she softens that with a somewhat affectionate expression. She is actually glad to see he's happy??? But this conversation is weird.]
If this is your way of fishing for a cool aunt for your future kids with Pyrrha, I'm honored, but I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself.
[She knows you two totally had sex or whatever but maybe calm down?]

...And also would never in a million years guess Weiss told Jaune about that.
Either way, she chuckles even as she shakes her head.]
No thanks. [A small grin.] I appreciate you wanting to share the joy around...but I think I'm good on the true love front.
[...It's not because she's already found somebody.]

Yang Xiao Long!
[ He slams his hands on the table, leaning forward in surprise. ]
You've finally found someone after all this time?! That's great news! What took you so long?
[ Poor Weiss. :( ]

What!? No!
I meant "I'm good" because I'm not looking for something serious right now. Not, "I'm good" because I've already found my soulmate or whatever.
[Poor Weiss, indeed.
And "What took you so long", excuse???]

I don't keep a diary, Jaune.
[Sorry to disappoint??]
And even if I did, I seriously doubt you'd wanna read all about my "Girl" problems.
