[It's kind of impressive that Yang managed to have the presence of mind to hiss that instead of scream it.
An icy cold lump drops into her stomach and she's not sure whether it has more to do with the fact that her mother decided to throw her under the proverbial bus once more or the fact that Raven's been cavorting with Mercury Black.
...It's easier to just leave it at "Both. Both are bad."
She's quiet a moment longer while she wrangles her emotions and, more importantly, her thoughts into check before finally asking:]
Okay, soooo do I want to know why you felt like blowing your secret to a punk like Mercury Black or was this just another item you wanted to check off on your "Make Yang's life miserable" bucket list?
[Now she just sounds like she has a headache. A 19 years old headache.]
You wanted to show off and make yourself feel big by putting him in his place, got it.
["Ensure victory," her right arm. She knows an ego trip when she hears one.
Although the extremely petty part of her is actually kind of pleased to hear that somebody took Mercury down a peg or two...
But the rest of her is just sort of...taken aback. This isn't at all what she'd meant by Raven not needing to be so concerned about hiding herself away. ...Then again, is she really surprised her mother took that to mean she could lord her powers over whoever crossed her instead of, you know, maybe trying to make amends and reconnect with her family.
For some dumb reason, the answer is yes.]
Whatever. [Yang's tone is cold. Much colder then she's ever sounded before.] If you don't care then I don't care either. [Bitingly.] Thanks for the heads up.
[She'll just have to figure out how to tell her friend she lied by omission in what was apparently a really stupid and misguided attempt to protect her mother.]
[Once again Yang saw through her. Time to get on the defensive, it seems.]
Perhaps I did, but I'm hardly the only person who does that.
[Hey, progress. She admitted Yang was right.
The coldness in her daughter's voice is unsettling a bit. Yeah, she knows. This is not what Yang expected. To be honest, Raven doubted she would ever do anything what Yang expects her to do - as a mother or anyone.
She's not fit to be a mom anyway.
But, she does have a guess on what was going through Yang's mind.]
Maybe you just wanted to protect me, but I don't [Deserve.] need that. So stop. You have great friends. They'll forgive you for not telling before.
[Raven definitely isn't the only person who does that. The problem is the only other person that immediately comes to Yang's mind that does do that is Cinder which...well, yeah, that tracks.
Given more time to think about it, she'd realize this is honestly just another drop in the bucket of "Things her mom has let her down about" and ultimately not that big a deal in the scheme of things here but it still...hurts.
Either way, at the moment she really doesn't need Raven lecturing at her or playing at "knowing" her or her friends again. Even if she's right this time.]
Yeah, they will. They care about me.
[The insinuation being Raven obviously does not.]
Now if you don't mind, I'd like to get back to those great friends of mine.
[It's a brusque dismissal, but like with most of their interactions it's honestly all Yang can do not to show how hurt she really feels. She's glad this is voice-only because she knows her expression would give it away.]
[It's on voice because Raven wanted to avoid showing off any emotions as well. Like hurt that she'd undoubtedly feel over upsetting Yang once again. If Yang didn't see it, she could ignore she felt hurt. Yeah.]
You do that.
[She closes her device at that and sighs heavily.]

Has there been a change in that?

And why? Does it matter?
[She can dance around an issue too, mom.]

Mercury Black knows, now. We fought and I used my powers to defeat him. You should consider telling the others before he does it for you.
[Not that it matters to her what Yang does or doesn't do with the information, but she thought she'd warn anyway.]

Date: 2019-10-14 03:37 am (UTC)As you said, I don't have anything to fear here so using my powers out in the open, as I see fit, should be no problem.
[Look, she's making progress! She's trying not to hide from everything and actually openly be herself in this world. Even if that is... horrible.]
I needed to ensure my victory over him and assert that I'm above him. So I did.
